The Maintenance and Mine Projects Engineer, reporting directly to the Mine Operations Supervisor, will be responsible for all aspects of mine maintenance and mine capital projects.    

Specific Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of site safety and hold yourself accountable, participate fully in the mine site safety programs
  • Duties will be split between maintenance oversight and project management with the split primarily determined by the size and number of ongoing or upcoming projects
  • Manage and assist with mine specific projects to include managing subcontractors, identifying and developing future projects, and working with the capital projects team
  • Estimate, track, and report costs associated with the mine and project budgets
  • Complete cost analysis and efficiency studies
  • Assist with agency reporting and updates
  • Work with consultants and engineers
  • Update and reconcile budget forecasts
  • Represent the mine at the plant CAPEX Project Review meetings
  • Review project and maintenance invoices to ensure accuracy
  • Areas of maintenance focus include mining equipment, tipple, office/shop building, and Itafos light duty vehicles and equipment
  • Work with the mining contractor to ensure maintenance is prioritized properly and completed efficiently
  • Work with mining contractor to build annual maintenance plans and budgets, including major maintenance
  • Track equipment miles/hours and replacement schedules for the mine fleet and light duty pickups
  • Regular attendance at mining contractor maintenance related meetings including morning line-outs, daily-weekly-monthly internal maintenance meetings, external maintenance meetings with 3rd party contractors (e.g. Western States, Arnold Machinery)
  • Assist other departments in the organization as needed (one team mentality) 

Qualifications of the position include:

  • Possess a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Project Management, or related field
  • 3+ years of related experience, mining industry and/or project management experience preferred
  • Ability to coordinate activities between multiple contractors/departments
  • Ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple activities
  • Possess a high level of oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to perform in time pressure situations and meet identified deadlines
  • Must be a highly motivated self-starter
  • Possess analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work well in a team environment

Work Schedule & Environment: 

  • 4-day x 10-hour work week, typically Monday through Thursday
  • May be required to work altered work schedules to meet site goals 
  • Requirement to be responsive to Mine needs, including production upsets, during normal and off shift hours
  • Performing work in a combination of office/indoor and mining/outdoor settings
  • Typical mining environment working near moving equipment and mechanical parts, varying levels of noise, and near fumes or airborne particles
  • Performing work outdoors in a variety of environmental conditions including elevated temperatures, cold, rain, snow, etc.
  • Performing work from elevated heights, platforms, and/or ladders
  • Performing work using a variety of types of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including hard hats, safety glasses/goggles, gloves, hearing protection, fall protection, etc
  • Requires frequent standing, walking, and ascending/descending stairs
  • Requires full-time, on-site physical presence at our Mine location (Soda Springs, Idaho)
