The Mine Engineer, reporting directly to the Engineering Supervisor, is based out of the Conda Phosphate Operations and is responsible for providing support to the Conda mining operations by creating short range designs/schedules/plans, communicating designs/plan, claiming and reporting quantities and assisting in numerous projects across all the departments.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Develop and communicate short range mine plans and designs.
  • Track plan progress and monitor completion against monthly production targets.
  • Work with contractor to develop designs and schedules to meet monthly/annual production targets.
  • Identify operational improvement opportunities and work with key stakeholders to develop and implement improvement plans.
  • Perform regular audits of mining operations seeking efficiency improvements.
  • Utilize survey data to claim and report mining quantities.
  • Assist surveyors during busy periods / Understand design-to-field process / Manage data.
  • Assist surveyors in the creation of working files, ensuring files are updated and accurate.
  • Actively participate in slope stability programs on site. 
  • Manage and/or assist in multiple mine projects, including subcontractor management and oversight.
  • Assist other departments when needed.
  • Be a strong safety leader, holding yourself and others accountable to meet all safety expectations.

Qualifications for the position include:

  • Possess a bachelor’s degree in Mine Engineering or related field.
  • Ability to coordinate activities between multiple contractors/departments.
  • Ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Possess a high level of oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to perform in time pressure situations and meet identified deadlines.
  • Must be a highly motivated self-starter.
  • Possess analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Experience monitoring and developing slope stability programs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Proficiency in Carlson Mining Software and/or Geovia Surpac.

Work Schedule & Environment: 

  • 4-day x 10-hour workweek, typically Monday through Thursday.
  • Requirement to be responsive to mine needs, including production upsets, during normal and off shift hours.
  • Performing work in a combination of office/indoor and mining/outdoor settings.
  • Typical mining environment working near moving equipment and mechanical parts, varying levels of noise, and near fumes or airborne particles.
  • Performing work outdoors in a variety of environmental conditions including elevated temperatures, cold, rain, snow, etc.
  • Performing work from elevated heights, platforms, and/or ladders.
  • Performing work using a variety of types of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including hard hats, safety glasses/goggles, gloves, hearing protection, fall protection, etc.
  • Requires frequent standing, walking, and ascending/descending stairs.
