Reporting to the Supervisor, Project Management and functioning as a member of the Conda Phosphate Operations (CPO) Technical Services Team, the Mechanical Engineer/Project Manager position ensures that assigned projects are effectively executed. Responsibilities include overseeing all aspects of the safe, timely, and cost-effective execution of assigned projects. This position is responsible for executing projects that range from several thousand dollars to multimillion dollar projects with overall responsibility for managing scope, cost, schedule, internal staffing, outside vendors, and contractual deliverables. This position is also responsible for providing regular project updates, submitting status reports, forecasting project costs and cross departmental communication to coordinate in-field project execution.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Be a strong safety leader and actively support continuous Environmental Health Safety & Security improvement on site.
- Provide on-site leadership within the project team by building and motivating team members to meet project goals, adhering to their responsibilities and project milestones.
- Full project life cycle ownership: successful project delivery will include full implementation from initiation to deployment for one major or several minor initiatives simultaneously.
- Report on project success criteria results, metrics, test, and deployment management activities.
- Work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment demonstrating teamwork, innovation, and excellence.
- Prepare estimates and detailed project plan for all phases of assigned projects.
- Procure adequate resources to achieve project objectives within defined timeframes.
- Manage the day-to-day activities and resources of assigned projects.
- Provide status reporting regarding project milestones, deliverables, dependencies, risks, and issues, communicating across various leadership levels.
- Demonstrate a functional acumen to support how solutions will address client goals while maintaining alignment with industry best practices.
- Manage project scope and changes for assigned projects.
- Participate and/or lead feasibility studies, vendor selections and proposals for evaluation by key stakeholders.
- Act as an internal quality control check for assigned projects.
- Support the facility in technical questions that may relate to fluid dynamics, heat transfer, thermodynamics etc.
- Deliver appropriate and effective communication at various levels of the organization.
- Ensure that projects and programs are proceeding according to scope, schedule, budget, and quality standards.
- Comply with all company policies and procedures including, but not limited to safety, environmental, PSM, and code of conduct.
- Meet or exceed established performance expectations.
- Work without risk or harm to self and others.
- Perform other related functions as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications for the position include:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
- Entry to mid-level engineering role with 0-3 years of experience in a related field.
- Knowledgeable of the project management process.
- Proficient with MS Project, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, and Word. SAP experience considered a plus.
- Proven ability to demonstrate a drive for results and accountability to meet business objectives.
- Proven ability to work in a dynamic environment and collaborate across multiple areas to achieve common business objectives.
- Demonstrate decisiveness in resolving business challenges, making informed decisions, and identifying priorities.
- Ability to read blueprints and equipment files to ensure accuracy when ordering parts.
- Willingness to pursue continuous development and training opportunities.
- Self-starter and work with very little supervision.
- Ability to prioritize work and set work goals.

Work Schedule & Environment:
- 4-day x 10-hour workweek, typically Monday through Thursday.
- Requirement to be responsive to plant needs, including production upsets, outages, and turnarounds, during normal and off shift hours.
- Performing work in a combination of office/indoor and manufacturing/outdoor settings.
- Typical manufacturing/processing environment working near moving equipment and mechanical parts, varying levels of noise, and near fumes or airborne particles.
- Performing work outdoors in a variety of environmental conditions including elevated temperatures, cold, rain, snow, etc.
- Performing work from elevated heights, platforms, and/or ladders.
- Performing work using a variety of types of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including hard hats, safety glasses/goggles, gloves, hearing protection, respirators, protective suits, fall protection, etc.
- Requires frequent standing, walking, and ascending/descending stairs.
